It’s an off‑the‑beaten‑path spot right on the beach, and I might return next year because I actually enjoyed sleeping in the tent. Reality check: if you want to sleep in the tent, be prepared for the sun to wake you before 6:00 a.m., and you’ll be surrounded by nature and all its sounds. The displace is nice, but it’s more suited to rugged, seasoned travelers since there are no cities nearby.

We booked a beach camp overlooking San Pedro and San Pablo islands and stayed in a beach house with an en suite right by the sea, where the waves lapping at the edge of the hut kept us company as we slept. The accommodation was basic but very comfortable, and the family running the place were incredibly helpful, cooking breakfast and an evening meal, bringing us cold beer, arranging a day trip to San Pablo for nice snorkeling, and booking a minivan to Tacloban for our departure. The only downside was the weather, as we unfortunately had some rain.

We checked out after just 10 minutes, which was a bit of a relief since the weather was terrible and the sea was lapping at the edge of the balcony. To make matters worse, the hotel refused to give us a refund. And to top it all off, we found a few unwelcome roommates in the bed - a couple of spiders. Don't expect a relaxing stay here, it's more of an adventure.
