Wisdom Camping and Glamping

For nature lovers and especially bird watchers this is a little paradise! It’s very quiet and secluded, with an incredible number of animals you can see right around the property. The staff were friendly and eager to help. Breakfast and dinner were exceptionally tasty, and the venue has a lot of charm and potential. The remote location comes at a cost: the access road is in poor condition, so it takes longer to reach the main street and other destinations. The management’s organization was disappointing. We had a walking safari included in our stay, scheduled for a specific day and time, and we woke up early for it, but no guide appeared. Apart from a brief apology, no replacement date was offered. The staff were also unaware of our arrival, and the property could use a bit more upkeep and minor repairs in some areas.

We spent four days at the Wisdom Camping and Glamping location and loved it. The hosts were incredibly attentive and the food was amazing. The camping huts are very comfortable, with great views from every window and excellent bird‑watching opportunities for bird lovers. The huts are rustic but nice, with an open floor concept. There were no mosquito nets, so we hung the ones we brought, although there were no mosquitoes; we were traveling with two small children under three, so we wanted to be 100 % sure. The surroundings are amazing. Close to the huts there is water everywhere and a little “pool” area where you can refresh yourself, as well as some canoes to paddle around on the small lake. The wider surroundings are fields and forest, and it’s wonderful to stroll through the landscape. We really had an amazing time and recommend this place warmly to anyone who wants relaxed countryside in Sri Lanka. We’d recommend getting breakfast and dinner with the hosts. They serve delicious food, and because the location is far from any shop or restaurant, having food on the property was very comfortable. This place is a calm heaven and a perfect stay after visiting the more touristy attractions in Sri Lanka.

The location felt like a jungle paradise, but safety was a serious issue everywhere – the bridge looked ready to collapse, ladders and steps were missing rungs, there was mould on the beds and broken windows with shards sticking out. I wouldn’t let my kids play there and we left as soon as we arrived. The resort looked nice in photos but was unsafe and totally unsuitable for children; the whole complex was empty when we got there, although an employee claimed satisfied guests had been there the week before.

“Très bon moment”

Being out in nature, far from everything, felt like playing Robinson Crusoe, yet the meal times were far from punctual, which is a problem when you have five‑year‑old kids.

“Vogelparadijs in olifanten gebied”

Met ons gezin hadden we twee hutten op een klein eiland in the middle of nowhere aan de rand van Minneriya national park. Een vogelparadijs in olifantengebied. Hutten zijn heel basic, maar de omgeving is onovertroffen. Een koelkastje en waterkoker was nog wel prettig geweest voor een koud drankje of een kop koffie/thee. Een rit naar het stadje om iets van eten of drinken te kopen is zo'n 20 minuten. In de buurt van de camping is er niets
