I stayed to experience an Okinawan traditional house, something you won’t find at a resort, and the unique feel of living in a local home was unforgettable; chatting with the owner, Hideo, gave me insight into the area and Okinawan culture, and I left feeling as relaxed as if I were back home. The downside is that the single‑house layout means the rooms are separated only by sliding doors, so noise, other guests’ conversations or snoring can be intrusive, and the bathroom and toilet are shared between men and women, which may be a concern for some.
