“Pretty scenery, nice beaches and walks set in an exclusive leisure facility for the privileged few who don’t reallywant”
The location was convenient for the South West Coastal Path and beaches. It felt homely, like staying with a maiden aunt. The host was friendly and went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and welcome in her home. We booked on a whim and the host seemed unprepared for short‑notice guests. The housekeeper was absent, the bed sheets and towels were a bit damp, and the bathroom needs an extraction fan to handle steam from the shower. The TV was broken that morning, but we declined her offer to get another from an upstairs room because we sensed she was already stretched and didn’t want to add to her workload. We were looking for a break from the outside world, so that was fine. We prefer a shower cubicle to a bath. The shower screen needs a retaining strip at the base of the glass to stop water from running over the bath edge. Free permit parking nearby was good, but it was still a distance to carry luggage or a dog bed, especially during school in and out times since there is no footpath. We couldn’t access the garden, which was an issue for letting the dog out right before and after getting dressed for a pee. The locals in Surrey by the Sea, especially around the golf course, were rude, inconsiderate, entitled, and resentful of visitors to their personal paradise. It seemed the second‑generation mansion owners had displaced the original community, who obviously don’t need money from tourism. It made me feel sad because my mother’s fishing and farming ancestors came from here.
