The cottage right on the beach was charming and spotless, with a small outdoor nook that had a kitchen and day bed, plenty of character, and thoughtful décor; we slept to waves, woke to sunrise over Mt Agung, and enjoyed sunset views, though the lack of windows made it a bit hot and stuffy—an optional fly screen on the big wooden door would help keep mosquitoes out, which were only a few during our stay.

The staff were nice, the location on the beach was great, the mattress comfy, and there was a pleasant outdoor seating area; however, the beach itself was dirty and mosquito‑heavy compared to other Amed spots, the room has no open windows—only a door—so with no mosquito net the door had to stay closed, making the room stuffy and smelling, and a cat’s litter on the roof caused kittens to cry all night, preventing sleep, and the staff didn’t offer any compensation.

It felt like a home away from home: a spotless room right on the beach with breathtaking views of Gunung Agung, falling asleep to waves, chatting with Ibu Nyoman and family on the patio, her kind tour of Amed on motorbike, a visit to a local vineyard with grape‑harvesting, and a homemade breakfast she brought even though it wasn’t included—everything was perfect, and I’m eager to return.
