I spent two pleasant days alone in Melnik; my single room facing the road was clean, comfortable, quiet, and met all my needs. The owners arranged a taxi back to Sandanski for me to catch the bus to Thessaloniki, but I recommend telling the hotel manager a day ahead to ensure the driver arrives on time. I was pleasantly surprised to find a kitchen area for guests to prepare coffee or simple meals. The spot is super convenient, right beside the bus station, and hiking trails are easily reachable from the village. You can do the 5‑hour loop to Rozhen Monastery, Rozhen village, then up to the Orthodox church of Prophet Elias and the grave of Todor Aleksandrow, then back down to Melnik along the creek in the valley. The pool area could be better with some plants, and the kitchen area would feel more inviting with a bit of effort.

Everything was great: a clean room, friendly staff, and a swimming pool. The only issue was that there were no insect‑repellent webs.

The place is peaceful, with a summer kitchen where you can cook your own food without going to a restaurant. It’s a wonderful spot for families with children.
