The price is good. The furniture and cleanliness could use improvement.

The front‑desk gentleman was friendly. When you arrive, the hotel opens wide to the street with no surveillance, so anyone can come and go—though that might not be a big deal. The room is tiny, the bed is extremely hard, and the blankets were quite dirty (blood stains?) so we checked for bedbugs (none found, but some reviews mention them). We didn’t pay much (about 20 € per night, 700 TDH total). We turned on the AC and a large cockroach jumped out, hiding under the desk because the old plastic bag that had been there for about 20 years seemed inviting. The season is humid, so that might happen. One floor has only one bathroom and one toilet. The bathroom was a bit dirty but nothing else, while the toilet was really filthy, with someone apparently having fun aiming at the rim. If you’re adventurous, you might want to keep going. We thought we could sleep properly, but with no window we didn’t expect sunlight to enter the room. The ceiling had enough gaps to let us know when daylight arrived. In short, you’ll likely find better options—move on.

The only plus is the location—really close to the station and a good base for trips to Alishan or further around Taiwan. Unfortunately the other reviews don’t fully capture how bad the hotel is. It’s really for the non‑discerning, yet the price is still high for the conditions. The shared bathroom is in a sorry state, everything is dirty, and I had to worry about the cleanliness of sheets and towels; in some areas there were visible stains and burnt spots. The hotel has been unchanged for decades. Older furniture isn’t the issue, but the overall condition was poor.

I stayed again; Cultural Road night market and the train station are convenient, and there are late‑night snacks nearby. If you don’t mind very high cleanliness standards, it’s worth it. The hotel is an older building; it would benefit from gradual tidying, better cleanliness, and a renovation of the shared bathrooms.
