Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux is situated on the edge of Muirfield's championship golf course, overlooking the 9th and 18th holes. Elegant en-suite bedrooms offer Firth of Forth views or garden vistas. The onsite Chez Roux restaurant serves classical French cuisine with local Scottish produce. Ample gardens feature a croquet lawn, tennis courts, and free Wi-Fi, with 10 golf courses within 5 miles.

The relaxed vibe, tasty food, attentive staff, and Penhaligon toiletries were all excellent. We had to request coffee and biscuits in our room, and the heating was absent.

The staff were very friendly and polite, and the room was bright, spacious, and had been recently renovated. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The public areas feel worn out, but the hotel will close the following day for a six‑month renovation, so that should improve.

The hotel, designed by two renowned architects, features a lovely garden. The food was very good and the staff helpful, making for a highly enjoyable stay.

Almost everything was fine, though location and staff stand out. The superb dishes in the dining room topped everything else, and we had a memorable stay. However, everyone notices the property feels tired and somewhat dated. We hope the winter renovations don’t alter Greywalls too much.
