The hotel is stunning and run by a warm, generous family who made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived; though it’s cash‑only and no English, we managed fine. The rooms are very roomy and the onsens and lounge area are lovely, but the pillows are extremely hard, which was the only drawback.

The staff are very friendly, run by an older couple who did everything to make our stay pleasant. Every day we enjoyed a delicious Japanese breakfast in a beautiful setting. The onsens were great, with options for public (separated) or private booking (which can be shared). I recommend renting a car, as the buses are infrequent and don’t stop everywhere, making it hard to reach sights like Kamikochi, Gatten, the ropeway, and other onsens.

A typical Japanese inn with a restaurant that rivals a Michelin‑starred French establishment! The inn is old, which adds to its charm, and the hosts are adorable.

The staff were very nice and polite, but 80 to 85% of the hallways on the second floor had water damage and a moldy odor. We stayed one day and left the next, yet they did not refund us for the second day, and there was no one available in the morning to help.

The couple running the place is very pleasant, and the house is beautiful and large. It feels a bit outdated, with appliances that are about 25 years old, yet it keeps all its charm. The onsens are nice, both the free public one and the private one.
