“Value for money but could easily do better.”
The staff were nice and the location was good, but like most hotels in Whitby they need modernisation and show signs of being in better days. The receptionist led me up to my room, the doors and corridor paint were very dirty—just a tin of paint wouldn’t cost much. We had a room with two single beds and were pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness. Unfortunately there is a beer terrace on the level of the window and it wouldn’t take much to break into the room. The room was quite warm; I had no idea where the heat was coming from, though it was 10 °C outside. Unfortunately you couldn’t open the window in summer because a table is outside your window with a terrace for other customers, and someone could enter your room if the window was open. The mattresses should be replaced; it felt like sleeping on something supported by rebar. For the price, the location was great, parking was free, even though the council fined me £50 because I didn’t mark the parking ticket—it was 2026, duh. Overall the position was central, the staff were friendly, breakfast was superb. It cost £99 for two people including breakfast and parking. I would say yes, it was value for money, just needed a bit of updating for a budget destination and new mattresses.
