The staff were very friendly, but Crystal Beach was not open when it appeared available in the spring holiday promotions.

I stayed right in front of the big pool, and that was a highlight.

The room was comfortable for two people even though the paint had some flaws, the door frames were off, and the floors were stained; the view was lovely for city‑dwelling guests, waking up to a tidy, tree‑lined park was one of the best parts of the stay. From the moment we arrived, surprises kept coming: we were asked for a U$S 300 guarantee that hadn’t been mentioned before, and when we had asked about bringing our one‑year‑old French bulldog, about 11 kg, we were told the daily fee was U$S 30, but at check‑in they charged U$S 35 “for cleaning,” even though we brought our own kennel, bowl, and even diapers in case it needed to go at night. The first impression was that the place felt quite abandoned compared to our expectations. We arrived and were given a twin‑bed room for a couple; after calling, they fixed it by joining the beds. We toured the closed‑pool area and saw a hydro‑class in one pool and a group of kids playing in the other, which was fine, but for a couple hoping to rest for a few days it was a bit chaotic. We decided to use the jacuzzi in the room, but when we tried to fill it it didn’t work; we called and were told maintenance would come. We drained it, and within 10 minutes the bathroom flooded. We called again, and the service and maintenance staff were helpful, but we were left without a bathroom for over three hours while they tried to fix it. As a guest who didn’t pay much for the stay, I expected at least a different room to be offered while the issue was resolved. Eventually they used sanitary tape, then a machine, but the problem persisted, and they moved us to another room around 10 pm. To our surprise, that room also had single beds, and we kept waiting. In response to our complaints they offered a late check‑out, which we declined because we had commitments in Montevideo, and that was the end of it. The app advertised a “buffet breakfast,” but in fine print it said our rate didn’t include it; we’d have to pay U$S 22 for a rather limited breakfast. We ended up eating breakfast outside instead.

The facilities are very pretty, but the air‑conditioning unit next to the window of the adjacent room was loud, making it hard to sleep at night.

The accommodation and surroundings are very pretty, but the pool was icy and we went there.
