“Veel meer dan een hotel: een onvergetelijke ervaring in Bethlehem”
This beautiful hotel can be visited for various reasons: because of the impressive artworks, including Banksy, the historic Bethlehem, and many unique sights in the area. We were looking for a nice and central base for our 25‑year wedding anniversary trip. From the hotel we wanted to explore not only Bethlehem but also Jerusalem, the Dead Sea and even Petra. The Walled Off Hotel turned out to be ideally located. Checkpoint 300 and the nearby bus station are close, making it easy to travel to Jerusalem and other destinations. The surroundings feel calm and safe. On the street you’re often approached with the question, “Where are you from?” In many countries that’s the start of a sales pitch, but here we noticed that people were genuinely interested. Almost every conversation ended with a warm “Welcome!”. Tourism has declined recently, and we sincerely hope that more travelers will find Bethlehem and the rest of Palestine again. The hotel itself is a large work of art. We stayed there for over a week and discovered new details every day. Even when you want a quiet day, there’s plenty to do in the hotel. There’s an art gallery, an interesting museum, and of course the famous piano bar, with a piano that can be played remotely—something that, among others, Elton John has done. What made our stay truly unforgettable was the staff. From the moment we entered until the moment we left with genuine sadness, we didn’t feel like guests among the hotel staff but like friends. They were constantly working to make sure we felt safe, welcome and comfortable, both inside and outside the hotel. Wisam, the owner who built the hotel, regularly checked in personally to see how we were doing. Milad and all the other great people…
