“A peaceful little hideaway”
After a long day exploring Nusa Penida—driving there is a bit of a laugh—I needed the peace and simplicity of Spice Trader, and it delivered. The hotel is charming yet simple, which I really liked. It feels relaxed and unpretentious, with an incredible sunset view, and the staff were always lovely and attentive. The road to the hotel is a little tricky, especially on a scooter, but it’s only about five minutes and totally manageable. The location itself became one of my favorite aspects of the stay. Both Gamat Beach and Amok are within walking distance—Gamat Beach is a beautiful, quiet spot far from tourist crowds, perfect for a quiet afternoon and sunset, while Amok offers great food and drinks with amazing ocean and mountain views, especially at sunset. The secluded location is probably the biggest advantage and the only real downside; it gives you a completely different, much more peaceful side of Nusa Penida, but reaching most of the island’s main sights takes at least 45 minutes. If you’re not comfortable driving, the hotel can also organize tours for you.
