“Brilliant”

The house is architecturally spectacular; I arrived, parked my bike safely, and sat with the owner, two workers, and another cycle tourer who offered refreshments, snacks, and great conversation. Friendly Tommy took us to the onseng, we joined him, then dined together and drove back to the hotel for another lounge session. It felt like being welcomed by friends—after traveling all my life, this is the best guest house experience I’ve had. The sun was scorching when cycling up from Joetsu, but that might not be the guesthouse’s fault.

It’s a traditional Japanese house and it was fascinating to experience. Breakfast features local specialties, deepening the cultural immersion. The staff were very kind and attentive, even driving me to the station after I sprained my ankle. We chatted a lot and played board games. For a human experience, I recommend it. The location is a bit far (15 minutes walking from Suzaka station) and the train runs every 30 minutes. Because the house is traditional, the walls are paper, so keep that in mind when choosing this spot.

“映画のような記憶に残る滞在”

The staff are simply amazing, teaching kids a lot of board games! The multicultural vibe is also fun. The mattress didn’t suit me.

Marina and her team made me feel at home from day one! The house is very charming, traditional, and cozy. I got excellent advice on nearby activities and restaurants, and she even reached out to a friend from another guest house I was considering, securing a discount for me. I’m very grateful for this 10/10 experience and will return if I’m in the area again.

Staying in a 100‑year‑old house felt incredibly cool, the garden was gorgeous and every facility you could need was there. The staff were the highlight—friendly, helpful, fluent in English, and Nina even brought board games, which was a blast! The only downside is that the building’s age means you’ll hear every noise; if you’re a light sleeper, bring headphones or earplugs and you’ll manage just fine.
