The Lalu Sun Moon Lake

We absolutely loved staying at the Lalu and wish we’d booked more nights; Marshall, our staff member, was incredibly detailed, articulate, and pleasant, making us feel very welcome and enhancing our experience.

“Great location, view and pool - old facilities and patchy service!!”

The location and original design were incredible, as were the swimming pool and spa facilities. The hotel felt like an uncared old lady who once looked stunning in the 50s but has since aged and forgotten to touch up her lipstick or dust her hat. The architecture is striking, somewhat reminiscent of the Barbican from back in the day, and the views are breathtaking. Staff and service are uneven; some are nice, others indifferent and even rude. Small details matter, like not storing swim caps, leaving towels behind pool loungers, or the women at the spa chasing you while all men were naked to pay your bill. Breakfast caters to locals and, unless you enjoy the soups, the options are limited. The place has great bones and is almost worth it for the location, pool, and dim sum restaurant, but the nightly rate is too high for what the overall experience averages out to.

Everyone at the hotel wore a smile and provided warm service, the view of Sun Moon Lake was fantastic, cycling around the lake offered breathtaking scenery, breakfast was tasty, and the western‑style dinner was also delicious, making for a pleasant vacation experience.

“宿泊費に見合わない宿泊体験だった。”

The lake‑view scenery was lovely, yet the chatter from the floor above was far too loud, the facilities showed signs of wear, there were too few power sockets in the room forcing me to unplug the electric mosquito trap to charge it, the breakfast fell short of expectations and staff cleared the dishes without saying a word, resulting in a stay that didn’t match the price paid.
