The place is great, tucked into the tiny village of Hinterbichl, and there are loads of excellent mountain walks right from the hotel doorstep. The room was comfortable and spacious with a quiet green view. The self‑serve drinks arrangement at dinner worked well once we figured out the system. Breakfast was good. The owner's son was very friendly and fun, helping out with service at dinner. Because it’s a small hotel we expected a more personal touch. The welcome was fine, but the vibe felt a bit offhand and impersonal during our stay. On our first night we went to the restaurant for dinner, which was very crowded, and when we finally found someone to seat us we were offered a spot at a small table already taken by a single guy. He realized we were uncomfortable and kindly moved to share with another single person, so it worked out. Luckily that was an exception, and we found our own table on the following nights. Dinner was simple, hearty Austrian fare – okay, but not fine dining. The floor in our room wasn’t cleaned every day – sand was on the floor.
