I made a booking mistake with the date and arrived at the house on a day off. Quickly and without complications, we were helped, and because the restaurant was closed, the hostess prepared a bread plate with two beers for us. She didn’t charge us for it, but we happily took that into account when checking out.

We arrived on time, but nobody was there to greet us. The room turned out to be only 16 m² including the bathroom instead of the advertised 25 m². The breakfast featured lukewarm coffee, lukewarm water for tea, and a very limited selection.

If you’re near Klanjec or planning a trip to Zagreb, you have to book Stara Vodenica. It feels like a playful, almost fairy‑tale place built with traditional craftsmanship and a lot of care. The whole property exudes a pleasant charm, with rustic buildings outside and rustic furnishings inside the rooms and restaurant, all in a Croatian‑Slavic farmhouse style. There’s an outdoor pool and an extra indoor pool, both beautifully designed. The many little details and the lovely color scheme enhance the stunning impression. If you enjoy that kind of atmosphere, don’t mind creaky floorboards, love local Slavic folk music, want a hearty breakfast, and appreciate the special vibe, this is the place for you. Kids can also find affectionate touches in the outdoor area, go on explorations, and even meet curious goats that like to be petted. We really enjoyed our short stay here.
