The heating was non‑existent and I got no reply when I messaged the host about it. The information given was misleading. The pub was closed and no one was around, so everything had to be handled by message. Parking was problematic because the main road had time restrictions.

The property was advertised as being above a pub that served food, but when we arrived the pub was closed and only the accommodation was open. We had wanted to use the pub for dinner and a nightcap, and knowing this beforehand would have let us choose a more suitable place.

“Do not consider this hotel”

The bathroom was fine. We booked because it was a pub where we could relax and drink in the room upstairs, but the pub had already been shut before we booked and we were never told. Linen was scattered outside our room upon arrival, no staff were present, and we only received a message about accessing the room key from someone “somewhere in the world.” The room had a single frosted window that let in no light, and the two beds were joined together, making it uncomfortable. It was a terrible choice, and we will seek a refund.

When we arrived Saturday afternoon, we opened the door ourselves and found the bedroom window left open; the floor was like a lake because it had rained all morning. We called the owners, who told us to try another room (keys are kept in key safes outside), and we eventually got a different room. Smoke alarms went off at 5.00 Sunday morning because a guest was showering. We had to dial 999 as no staff were on the premises. The guest who triggered the alarms left while we waited outside for the fire brigade. We were not allowed back in until 6.30. The fire brigade tried to contact the owners; the first call was hung up, the second left a voicemail saying they had attended the property and everything was safe for us to return. I expected at least a courtesy call to confirm we were okay, but we never heard anything. We were supposed to stay until Monday but left on Sunday morning. I contacted the owners to inform them, but have not received a reply. If you’re thinking the Red Lion next door is open, it’s actually closed in July. I definitely will not return or recommend it.

“Lovely location, room clean and basic but needs a bit more attention.”

Harlech was a pleasant spot. The room was simple but tidy, suitable for a one or two‑night stay but not beyond that. The mattress was terrible and you could feel the springs, the toilet seat was broken, and there wasn’t enough toilet paper. No toiletries were provided except hand wash. I was given the wrong key code twice, which was annoying after a long drive, and it took the owner a few calls before they finally answered.
