“Affordable location”

The gated compound feels safe and is conveniently located for hiking, plus it’s one of the most affordable options, so keep expectations modest. The staff were friendly and they fixed a faulty bathroom bulb. Still, a few adjustments are needed: 1) Pricing transparency is lacking; booking a room triggers an extra R240 per day if you stay between 10am and 5pm, a day rate I’ve never encountered and feel unjustified. I was hiking during that window, so it wasn’t a problem and you can still leave your belongings in the room. 2) Wi‑Fi kept dropping, partly due to the area and weather. 3) Only one of three power outlets worked. 4) A kettle and microwave would be welcome additions.

“It's a brothel ..”

It’s essentially a brothel. Nights booked through the usual channel are only available for that single night; the room is emptied mid‑day so they can rent it by the hour to other guests. There are no sheets on the bed, and guests are told not to flush used condoms, while Viagra is sold at the entrance.
