I was looking for exactly this kind of place, and it delivered and more! The dar sits in a local, less touristy part of Fes. My single room was clean and simple. The real highlight was the hospitality from Moussa and Ahmed. Before I even landed, Moussa offered to delay my booking three times because of delayed or cancelled flights. I arrived at 3 am, Ahmed walked me in, and from then on Moussa was always proactive and available, helping me make the most of my time and giving advice whenever I needed it. The bedroom was tidied and cleaned daily, I got a delicious breakfast every morning (though a bit large in portion), and mint tea on the rooftop whenever I wanted. I can’t recommend it enough! I felt perfectly safe around the dar, which has a few great spots to eat and buy snacks. Some of my favorite memories were simply wandering the local streets there, if that’s your thing, rather than the busy market streets. I came in late December, so be prepared for the cold, especially at night. The beds and sheets are very warm, so it never became a problem.
