Owner Gavin was absolutely fantastic at training us and, because he believed in us, we felt confident handling the boat; I won’t lie, navigating the canal locks was hard work, yet this experience gave us a taste of canal life, the charming towns and the communities of narrow‑boat dwellers, a true glimpse into a slower lifestyle; the ducks and friendly swans were delightful, as were all the friendly people and dogs on the towpath; the boat had every amenity we needed and ample space for the two of us; opening and closing the locks was a little scary at first, but we settled into a rhythm and felt confident.
