Located in San Martino Alfieri’s historic centre, Marchesi Alfieri – Cantine e Ospitalità occupies an 18th‑century building beside a castle and its own winery. The historic charm of the house, its great position for exploring nearby villages, and the excellent breakfast in a beautiful setting made it a top experience. The tasting and historic tour of the estate’s cellars were also wonderful.

The staff were friendly, the location lovely, the wine superb, and the wine tour and tasting were fun. The bed was comfortable, cleaned and redecorated daily, the room was spacious, and there was a parking spot. The honesty bar offered wine bottles, and the outdoor breakfast area was nice. The breakfast was good but not very extensive. There’s no pool, and while you can sit in the garden or under the canopy, it’s not very inviting. A real drawback is that you can’t dine there; the village is tiny with few restaurants, many of which are closed early in the week, and even the supermarket is closed on Wednesday afternoons. The staff are helpful, but you still have to sort things out yourself. Also, you don’t stay in the castle/house/orangerie, but in a nearby building.
