Hotel Moderno Puerta del Sol

We liked the very central location. Unfortunately the hotel is quite old; the bathroom was unplastered and looked badly in need of refurbishment. Starting at 2 am, deliveries began behind the hotel, forcing us to keep the windows closed to endure the noise.

The hotel is centrally located, making it easy to walk around the city centre. There were no issues to note.

The hotel is in a central spot, within a 10‑20 minute walk of most neighbourhoods, and the metro is right outside. The staff were friendly and helped us get a taxi to the airport. The room was clean. Protests were happening nearby, but we couldn't hear anything from our room. It was a bit pricey.

“Scarey and stressful”

Not much to say positively. Protesters had been camping outside the hotel for 10 days without any warning. Two groups clashed, and riot police were stationed on both sides of the hotel door, which was frightening. We left when it was quiet, but when we tried to exit onto the street, the police blocked us and forced us to take another route. We were stopped again on the alternate street and told the road was closed; after arguing and showing our booking on the app, we were finally allowed in. Knowing about the trouble in that area would have made us reconsider staying there. Even after we got inside, the riots and police kept us awake all night – overall a very stressful, scary experience.

“Convenient, Central”

The central location was great, the service was excellent, and everyone was very helpful. Everything was fine.
