“Hard to reach and definitely overpriced”

I didn’t sleep at the property because it was too much of a hassle to get there in the afternoon/evening. After 6pm no public transportation, only an expensive taxi ride. From Hong Kong Island it takes 2-3 hours to reach. After 5pm no restaurants or other food options (or the possibility to buy groceries). You have to bring your own food to the hostel. Not an hostel at all (though this is a general problem in HK).

The staff were very helpful, yet the distance from the airport was far longer than advertised; it was over 25 miles instead of the promised 5 miles.

“Good location for hiking”

The location was good for reaching the top of Fenghuang Mountain, but the bedding and pillows were poor.

“Good location if you’re keen for hiking”

I liked that it was cheap and the view was great, but the facilities weren’t well kept and the area felt pretty deserted. The road is narrow.

“Good place to stay if you’re at Lantau mainly to hike.”

The bus terminal and trail to the peak were very nice, and it’s easy to hop on a bus to other trails and places. The surroundings are peaceful in the morning, but it gets very dark after sunset. The last bus back to the terminal comes early, especially from the main island of HK; if you miss it, getting to the hostel is a big hassle. Nearby food and drink spots close around 5:30 pm, so bring or prepare your own meals.
