“Practical, but strangely charmless”

The pub sits right on the Cotswold Way, which was perfect for us, and the old building has heavy wooden beams and all that. The rooms are in a newer building at the back that used to be a skittle alley, and our family room was huge with a decently sized bathroom. The bar food was surprisingly good—ham, eggs, chips were excellent—and the lad who served us in the evening was friendly. They also made a great packed lunch. Still, the overall vibe felt a bit gloomy; the pub itself looked rough with threadbare furniture, sticky tables, floorboards that felt soft under a filthy carpet, and a massive purple flat‑screen TV on one wall. The beds were cheap and uncomfortable, and the sheets seemed like they hadn’t been changed since the last guest—maybe the duvet hadn’t been washed either—so better bedclothes would have made a big difference. A shame.

“Perfect stopover”

During a long drive to Cornwall with the dog, The Dog Inn proved to be the ideal stopover. The classic pub had good beers, tasty food, a large garden, and even a Scrabble set. We stayed in the family room, which had just been refurbished with plush carpet and nice decor. The location was spot‑on—just off the motorway yet still in the countryside with fantastic walks. We’ll definitely return, and we’ve already booked a return stay. One of the beds had a few very sinky sections, but the ones we used were very comfortable.

“Very comfortable and enjoyable stay.”

Breakfast was lovely and freshly made. The only downside was that there was no plug in the handbasin and no hooks for hanging clothes.

“Filthy Grubby Pub/Rooms”

Location. Filthy badly stained carpet!,shower cubicle doors and frame were filthy! dirt in room everywhere ! Lay on top of bed all night as springs sticking out mattress ! Substandard bedding and towels like dirty rags! Sofa bed not made up as didn’t know I had child with us ! Extension cable and fan absolutely filthy ! Door handle difficult to open and close! Disgusting place pub itself is filthy dingy , curtains are full of mouldy black stuff , didn’t have breakfast and left early . This place is misrepresented I had only read two or three reviews on booking . com that said it was good so booked on your ratings . paid 130 to lie on a bed all night awake wondering if any bugs or rats were in there too!
