The restaurant staff were great, especially Omar, the hotel's location was good, and the local nature and wildlife were present; the view and the sea were spectacular, that is undeniable, but they were not linked to the hotel management. The photos on Booking did not match the current state of the hotel; as soon as we arrived we noticed negative differences, especially in the pool lounge area. From the start there were renovation works throughout the hotel: in the room in front of ours they rebuilt the roof and there was a constant bustle of workers during the whole stay. This should have been reported at the time of booking or before payment, because it compromised the privacy, a strength that should have been a feature of this hotel. We were offered a free transfer to Paje as compensation, which we did not use because we had other plans, but the inconveniences caused by the works remained. We had booked a room with a double bed; the bed had two single mattresses side by side and separated, one at least 2 cm higher than the other (the room details listed a bidet that did not exist). Breakfast was included and excellent, but coffees and other items were extra. That seems unfair. The main reason I wanted to write this review: at check‑in I was asked to sign a sheet that explicitly stated that, given the frequent blackouts in Zanzibar, the hotel would restore power within 2 minutes of waiting, using their generator. A total blackout occurred for two consecutive nights and at the same time their generator had technical problems. The result was that for two consecutive evenings there was no power and the water ran intermittently. On one of those evenings we dined in the dark with the room water not available until 9 pm. All of this happened with the manager constantly present on site. I would have expected AT LEAST a symbolic gesture from the management, because a 4‑star hotel could not solve the problem for two nights in a row: no dinner in the dark offered, no small discount, and certainly NO drink.
