The best place we've stayed on our trip through Namibia and the Cape, no doubt. We were upgraded, though it was still just a single bedroom instead of two, and everything looked just as good. The staff were amazing, always chatty and friendly. We only dined once at the on‑site restaurant, and the food was outstanding. The following night they hosted a food and drink Night Market, which was again out of this world. I’d strongly recommend staying here if you’re exploring this part of the Wine Route with easy access to Paarl and Stellenbosch. I can’t even pick a single flaw – it was perfection.

The restaurant terrace and the pool loungers were great. But anyone who thinks you’re staying at Boschendal is mistaken; the accommodation is 3 km away down a road lined with construction sites. The whole area feels more like a holiday camp. The rooms are in low‑rise buildings with an Ikea‑style interior. The only bright spot is the small wood stove. The shower had no water pressure and just dribbled; it took 10 minutes to scrub out the shampoo. In the restaurant they served reheated pizza, and the red wine was ice‑cold, even though it was on a vineyard.

The staff were excellent and super attentive. We had a lot to do – the garden tour with Yolanda was the highlight, as was horseback riding. We really enjoyed the hospitality, food, wines and sights!

The location was good, and the retreat cottages were pleasant, with a sauna and ice tub. Food and service at Arum Restaurant, and the Manor House and Herb gardens were nice. However, we first went to the main Boschendal Estate to check in because it wasn’t clear where to go, then had to head to the Retreat cottages side to actually check in. Breakfast staff were very slow at serving or clearing dirty plates. The exit from the reception walkway is dangerous since a hedge hides the road, so guests can’t see cars coming up or down and might be knocked over—especially children. There are no signs and the road to the sauna is dirty. Arum Restaurant feels soulless, lacking art or pictures on the walls, floor rugs, or background music. It was a lovely evening, so why not open the patio doors for guests?
