The hosts were welcoming and the breakfast selection was great, especially the porridge that was very filling. The bed was comfy and the pets were gorgeous. Watching the bird feeders during breakfast was a highlight. The only downside was that it felt a bit expensive.

The landlady was very relaxed during meal times, making the hotel feel warm and welcoming. We were very happy with our stay and loved the old Agents room, which was resplendent and seemed safe. We really enjoyed it.

Fiona and James were both friendly and gave us helpful tips for evening meals. The room overlooked open fields and had a balcony where we could sit outside with a drink and enjoy the late afternoon sun. James’ breakfast the next morning was amazing—he’s a fantastic chef. This is a great place to stay if you want to explore Hay‑on‑Wye and beyond; you won’t be disappointed and we’ll definitely return. The only complaint is that it doesn’t get better than The Agent’s House!

The bucolic setting was perfect, with charming managers and very kind, playful dogs. The location was great, parking was convenient, and the distance to the hay was short. The restaurant with a river view was a nice way to close out the day. Nothing else to add.

A period property with real character that’s been carefully modernised to upgrade its facilities; it’s convenient for exploring the beautiful area on the Wye and near Brecon, and I loved everything so there was nothing to dislike.
