We traveled as three families, enjoyed a clean large public bath that was practically private, and the rooms were very satisfying. However, we kept getting upgrade offers that turned out to be extra‑charge suggestions, making us feel awkward to decline; that was the biggest disappointment. In the end I ordered eel rice, but it seemed the portion would have been insufficient without that dish. Still, the meal was labor‑intensive, rare, and delicious.

A lovely, traditional yet modern Japanese hotel and spa. The rooftop bath was amazing, and the Japanese dinner and breakfast were extraordinary. Walking along the river felt like stepping into a story.

Each staff member seemed well‑trained, which made the service superb, and the meals highlighted fresh ingredients and tasted great, with the drinks also enjoyable. One part of the room was lovely, but the gravel‑covered area between the bedroom and bathroom felt unsafe, and I had to watch my step—my husband actually stepped on the gravel in the middle of the night.

The location and room were stunning. We were thrilled to visit between Kanazawa and Kyoto. The traditional room was gorgeous, and the surrounding walks and town were very scenic. The food quality was exceptional, perhaps a touch too traditional for our western palates, but we still loved experiencing the local cuisine.
