We raised the issue with the house’s daughter on the day of departure because the owners were on vacation; the apartment’s cleanliness was lacking—only a superficial clean left by the previous tenant, with a full ashtray, used towel, and bath mat hanging over the terrace chairs, toothpaste still on the toothbrush in the bathroom, a stairwell that hadn’t been swept, and a kettle that needed descaling.
