The park and castle are beautiful, and we had a lovely encounter with the deer in the park. The library bar is cosy with a peat fireplace. We also liked that the hotel is undergoing a restoration of the common rooms; once finished, those rooms will look stunning. The reception staff are very friendly. The food at the dungeon bar was okay but not impressive, the fish was over‑baked, and the waiters were not the most friendly or customer‑oriented.

This was our second visit; it wasn’t mentioned in the advertising that half of the castle was under remodeling. However, it was still a nice stay. We received the remodeled rooms, which was an unexpected treat. We will return someday and hope the remodel is then completed. They even have their own whiskey! We were not aware of a remodel happening.
