This place is a great bargain, and the historic vibe of the 140‑year‑old hotel adds charm while still feeling modern. The rooms are basic, with shared bathrooms and a kitchen, but locals affectionately call it “the impy.” We kicked back with a drink at the bar and then savored a fantastic meal at the bistro before heading back to our room. Though it’s just a few steps away, the overall experience was superb, with friendly locals and travelers mingling. Coonabarabran itself is fascinating for its history and stargazing opportunities.
