I had no expectations because of the reviews, but I was completely wrong; stepping through the door we were pleasantly surprised, the place looked nice, and the staircase to the lobby felt more like a boutique than a $55US a night hotel, especially with the heavy discounts for the slow season. Every staff member was friendly and helpful, and Norman showed us the city and gave us shopping and eating tips. Pappu at the restaurant made sure our breakfasts were never lacking. We had booked two nights with plans to go to Delhi for three more nights, but after a month in India we were so relaxed at Regenta that we cancelled Delhi and added three more nights in Lucknow.

I couldn't find anything worth mentioning at the hotel; the air conditioner was low quality, the bed was uncomfortable, and the toilet jet had no proper water flow.

The location was good and the room was large and comfortable, and breakfast was rich and varied. The equipment is a bit old but well maintained. The room lacked natural light, and the air conditioning probably needs an overhaul because it caused breathing discomfort.
