Cleanliness mattered a lot to me when picking a place, and The Shoes B&B truly surpassed that; the sheets, pillows and duvet were spotless and smelled fresh, the staff were friendly and made me feel at home, and the location is excellent, so I can’t fault it; I’d gladly stay again on my next visit to Durham. Nothing really.

When I arrived I was a bit worried the room would be noisy because it’s on a main road and above a pub, but I didn’t have to worry; the room was very quiet, the temperature was perfect, the Wi‑Fi was strong (important for work), and the bed was very comfortable. Billy emailed me before I came and I told him I was vegetarian, so he made sure there were vegetarian sausages for my breakfast. I had a very enjoyable stay and the place was excellent value for money. Nothing.

There was a nice selection for breakfast and my veggie option was freshly cooked; the location was as expected. A more comfortable bed would have been better.

The main reason for going to Durham was that my brother lives in Gilesgate, and we also wanted to visit Beamish; transport to and from the hotel was excellent. The welcome was great and the room was superb; I cannot rate the venue higher. There was nothing at all to complain about.
