The shower camera next to the bed lacked lighting, there were no mosquito nets, no towel rail in the bathroom, and no bidet. The single room was terrible for €110 a night in a crowded hotel.

We started with a very problematic check‑in: the electronic key card we received didn’t open our assigned room, so we had to go back and forth to reception many times, trying to access the room without success. After several attempts, we were told the room number we had been given was wrong and we were assigned another one. When we tried that card again, it opened the door, but the room was already occupied by another guest. We found the other person’s belongings, the lights were on, and the room was clearly in use. We don’t even know if that guest was present. We immediately locked the door again and went back to reception. Beyond the discomfort, this incident was particularly serious from a privacy and security standpoint: we were inadvertently given access to another guest’s room and belongings, and we wondered if the same could have happened to us. After all those back‑and‑forth trips, and having just driven about nine hours, I left the key at reception, explaining that we would leave and return only once they had verified which room was actually ours and how to access it. After some time we were finally called back and could return to the hotel. The check‑in process was decisively poorly organised and, in our opinion, would require much more attention and preparation from the staff.

I spent two nights at Hotel Astoria at the end of June for a city concert, and the location was perfect for reaching the venue and the train station, though getting to the old town required a bit of walking. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful; even though I told them I’d be late for the included breakfast and asked for local bar tips, they still served me a minimal breakfast at the hotel bar without any issue, which I really appreciated. I was placed in an accessible room where the shower was inside the bedroom instead of the bathroom and there was no bidet—a detail I wish I’d known beforehand, as bidets are assumed in Italy. The room arrived quite chilly despite the hot days, with the thermostat set to 20 °C; I turned off the AC and it stayed cool all night, so giving guests control over the temperature would be better. The final sting came after checkout when I saw a minibar water bottle charged on my bill that I never took, and no one asked if I’d used the minibar as usual. I reported it, received an apology and a promise to credit the €1.50 to a future stay, but I have no plans to return to Biella. The amount is minor, yet repeated errors matter. Overall the hotel is convenient with very helpful staff, but a few details need fixing.

The staff were welcoming and kind, and the breakfast was excellent. The checkout could be a bit later.

The breakfast was great, and the 24‑hour service was good. The elevator carpet was an issue.
