Il Torrione is a charming Bed & Breakfast with a lovely garden where you can dine and enjoy sunsets; it’s just a few meters from the main shopping street in the old town, and the host is very nice. The only downside is that the lake water at the end of July or beginning of August isn’t the main draw for visiting here.

The location is amazing, with a garden overlooking the lake and a seating area atop a castle tower; Monica was an excellent host and the rooms matched the pictures. The shower is small, typical of older European bathrooms, and parking is nearby but requires a short uphill walk that can be a bit awkward with luggage, which is to be expected for this kind of place.

The B&B sits entirely in the old town, right on the city wall, giving it a distinct vibe; the room and the whole house were lovingly furnished, the nights were very quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good, and on a nice day we could dine in the idyllic garden overlooking Lago Trasimeno. In the evenings you can stroll the old town’s many small cafés and shops. Both the owner and her staff were very friendly, and I would have liked to stay longer. The only caveat is that you can’t park right at the B&B because it’s on the city wall; outside there are paid parking spots, but there is a free lot on a nearby street heading toward the lake – it takes 5–10 minutes on foot, which isn’t a big issue unless you’re not very mobile.
