Viminale Domus sits right in the heart of Rome and the bed was super comfy, while the staff were genuinely kind and attentive. Cleaning was consistently good, with fresh towels and daily garbage removal. Even though I told them I didn’t need a full daily clean, they still made my bed, folded my pyjamas and placed my stuffed animal on it. The little kitchen offered free biscuits, jam, tea, coffee and sugar, which felt very homey. The staff went above and beyond—finding a scale when I needed to weigh my suitcase, washing my tea cups, and even helping me tie up difficult summer dresses when I couldn’t manage them myself. So the staff and cleaning were wonderful. My only concerns were with the room itself. The shower in room 3 had almost no water pressure, and the small handheld shower had good pressure but no stand, so it could only be used around hip level. After walking about 25,000 steps a day in 28°C heat, I really wanted a nice, hot, relaxing shower. In the last few days the water was sometimes only lukewarm rather than properly hot. The temperature varied from day to day, but it wasn’t consistently like this throughout my stay. For me, a hotel room is mainly a place to sleep and shower, so this was a significant disappointment. The other major issue was soundproofing. I’m not normally sensitive to noise, which is why this surprised me so much. The walls are extremely thin, and I could hear full conversations, people talking on speakerphone, hairdryers, showers, toilets flushing, water running and people moving around as if they were much closer than they actually were. Even the cleaning staff could be heard working, although they genuinely weren’t being loud.
