“Overall experience is big let down but good for anyone who likes trains”
The place looks amazing, especially the Pullman carriages that pull up right to the entrance; the vintage, quaint vibe gives a truly old‑fashioned feel. One partner slept well, but the other didn’t because the bed was creaky and the double bed was too big, leaving little room to move. The carriage was dusty—glass light fixtures on the ceilings, marks in the bathtub, cobwebs on the bathroom frame, and a radiator full of dust. I understand the property’s isolated rural location and that cobwebs might be expected if guests leave by 10 or 11 and check in after 3 pm, giving staff time to deep‑clean, but the overall experience earned me a 5 out of 10: dusty areas, a creaky bed, and breakfast where the bacon had been on the hot plate for hours and tasted rubbery. It was a big let‑down, and I won’t stay or recommend it again.
“Fabulous”
It was quirky and interesting—nothing to complain about.
“A memorable stay”
Excellent. The food quality was good and the service friendly and excellent. No negatives.
“Fantastic!”
The location, theme, staff, and on‑site restaurant were all great. The only downside was that the bathroom towels were rather small.
“Great experience.”
The setting was lovely, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast delicious. The place was exceptionally clean, especially remarkable for such an old train carriage. The staff were friendly and shared plenty of information about the railway station and nearby Petworth House. We also enjoyed a fine dining experience in the specially refurbished Pullman carriage, which is not open on Sundays and Mondays.
