Terrible—no air conditioning. The place is uncomfortable and the staff speak badly about guests.

“Vrijwilliger gevangen in Hoorn”

The location is great! The hotel itself is a former prison that still houses a cinema, right in the heart of Hoorn’s harbor with a view of the IJsselmeer. You wander through the old town of Hoorn, full of beautiful medieval buildings, terraces, and cafés. The room was a bit small but had air‑conditioning, and honestly nothing else stood out.

“Als Gast im ehemaligen Knast”

We had planned to bike from the MarinaPark Beach Resort Soal camp site in Workum to Stavoren with our e‑bikes and then take the ferry to Enkhuizen, but the ferry doesn’t run on Mondays. So we drove from Workum over the Abschlussdeich toward Hoorn. Because the deich is still under construction and not fully open to pedestrians and cyclists, we used the free Fietsbus from Kornwerderzand to Den Oever. From there we rode our e‑bikes to Hoorn, where we stayed one night at the former prison “Hotel Oostereiland”. The main entrance is accessed through the courtyard. Check‑in and everything else went smoothly at the small reception. The same room served breakfast the next morning, which was perfectly fine. Our room was on the third floor and had sloping ceilings – large people should watch their heads. 😄 The room was a bit small, but clean and functional. The bathroom was nice and gave a tidy impression. We could park our e‑bikes safely in the big hallway on the ground floor and charge the batteries right there – very convenient!
