Excellent pre‑stay information, easy to find and get into the room, felt very safe. Excellent tea, coffee, towels, soap, and shower facilities.

The bed was clean and comfy, and the spot was spot on – clear entry instructions too. But a Union Jack flag was rattling by our open window all night, which was a real bother; I can’t figure out why it was there, and it was too hot to close the window.

The room was just a 5 minute walk from the seafront, which was the main draw – perfect for a swim or hopping onto the coast path, and it was also only a few minutes’ walk or cycle to the train station. It was a decent size, the bed was good, and it stayed cool at night. The windows opened, which was always a plus. The ceiling’s soundproofing was awful; we could hear the room above moving around, using the bathroom, and flushing. It wasn’t their fault – they were fine – but the floor is obviously thin and a bit creaky. The area around the lodge felt uninspiring: a poorly stocked corner shop, a greasy spoon that didn’t open until about 10 am (so we went elsewhere), and maybe a hair salon.
