Even though it’s a hot spring inn, the value was excellent, and the staff handled last‑minute requests happily. The only downside was that the toilet was outside and the inn felt a bit far from the city, but that didn’t bother me much.

The staff were always smiling and friendly, the house was beautiful, and the private onsen was great. The dinner was delicious and felt like a full Japanese experience. The only problem was that the room had no curtains, so we were woken by light at 4.30am.

The stay was simply amazing, with staff attention to detail from warm reception to departure that went above and beyond to make it memorable. We received breakfast and dinner, plenty of food for a true ryokan experience, and it felt truly magical. The location was a bit remote, and heavy snow caused frequent train cancellations, so we worried about getting there, but everything worked out and they offered a free shuttle bus to and from the nearest station.

The staff were incredibly kind. Because of mechanical problems with my bike, I arrived very late. There were no restaurants in the area and I was still hungry, so the front desk lady prepared some onigiri for me. The next day, another employee helped me again. I had serious issues with my disc brake; the clamp that held the shims was bent, and there were no bike repair shops within dozens of kilometers. I was desperate and almost gave up. The gentleman drove me to a gas station where we got at least a pair of pliers. When I couldn’t go further and cursed, he took the pliers and, with angelic patience, straightened the clamp again. Thanks to him, I was able to continue my trip to Hokkaido. Huge thanks!

The staff at Koase were the real highlight—Tomoko, Koya, Sayaka, and Miwako welcomed us with enthusiasm and even escorted us on a tour to meet the mayor of Aga 😂 A special shout‑out to Tomoyuki for handling our bookings 🙏 Europeans might want more than one futon for their backs, though 😂
