In the restaurant Vito was superb front of house, amazingly helpful and attentive; the meal was okay, the wine was actually very palatable (8/10), but the room was a nightmare—after finishing my meal I returned to a room with an incessantly loud hum that made it impossible to sleep; I called downstairs at 12.30 and the night porter came, agreed, and could clearly hear the droning hum in the room, corridor and nearby rooms; he kindly checked the top floor and located a room where the sound was minimal; I moved rooms just before 1am and finally got to bed; the new room was adjacent to the roadside, smelled musty, and the window couldn't actually close because it was warped or misfitting, so trucks and lorries started rolling by at 5.30am; the toilet set wasn’t attached to the bowl, so it felt like being on a sledge, sliding from side to side; I estimate 4 hours of sleep; in the morning I noticed what looked like blood spots on the duvet cover; I travel a lot in the UK and overseas, and this overnight stay compares very much to a third‑rate dive in Mumbai.

The staff were mostly friendly, helpful and entertaining, and we were well looked after; breakfast was lovely though we missed a small selection of fresh chopped fruit, cereals and yogurt, and the evening meals were delicious; the room was clean and warm.

The room was decent with everything you need, quiet even though it’s on a main road, and the outside area was nice; it felt quite impersonal if you’re not dining there, the room wasn’t serviced if you have “do not disturb” on even though you leave for the day before checkout time, and the staff will leave early; I had to ask for a shower hose to be changed because it was very dirty and rusty (it was changed for us).

Due to it’s location, having the restaurant is a positive. The room was adequate and clean. Perfect for our needs. Our room did not have a refrigerator
