Excellent staff, super helpful. Internet was wonky. I had to use my personal hotspot for high‑stakes calls/meetings.

The rooms were smart, large, and comfortable. We were able to check in early because we had a wedding to get to at Wadhurst Castle by 2.00 pm. The Castle was a short walk away. We were able to get back in easily after the pub was closed. Early check‑in. I rang twice before our visit to ask if we could check in early – I got vague answers on both occasions. The booking email does say ring if you've got any requirements such as early check‑in. Luckily the bar staff were very helpful when we got there and sorted it. The tea/coffee making facilities need to be looked at. The coffee machine in one of the rooms had not been cleaned in ages. The water reservoir contained green slime – yuk! (see the picture). The number of coffee pods and tea bags provided meant we could only have one drink of each per room. I'm not familiar with the coffee machines and it took ages to get anything out – not all the pods worked. This is neither a like or dislike – breakfast is not provided and we found a good French café down the road which was open at 9.00 on a Sunday.

The hotel sits right in the town centre, just a five‑minute walk to Wadham Castle where the wedding was held. The staff were genuinely helpful, and the rooms were neatly furnished with good quality items and air‑conditioning. Lunch and dinner were pub‑style dishes that locals enjoyed all day. However, there was no breakfast offered, though two decent cafés were within 150 m. The rooms lacked a wardrobe and had few drawers; the ensuite shower was fine but could use more hooks for towels and clothes. The pub can get quite boisterous at night.
