“WE HAD A PLEASANT STAY.”
Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant menu offered great value. The staff were friendly and helpful, and watching the wild animals on the property was enjoyable. There was nothing to complain about.

My grandchildren loved the roaming animals and the setting was peaceful.

The surroundings and property looked nice, and the staff were friendly. However, my plans changed drastically and the lodge offered a free cancellation, so I had to rearrange my trip and only checked in around 8 pm after a long drive – the restaurant wasn’t open. I didn’t receive the room I booked and paid for; I paid for a deluxe family room but was given a step‑down room without any refund, even after the downgrade was done without my permission. I wasn’t informed that the lodge would close early on Sunday and shut entirely on Monday until I was checked in. We were literally alone on Sunday evening with only the security guard present. The room was substandard: cobwebs behind the beds, broken doors, broken towel racks, a dirty shower, and we only received water on the first day, not the second. I won’t return and feel my money was poorly spent. There was no air conditioning in the room (contrary to what was advertised), so it was musty and hot, and the windows couldn’t be opened because of mosquitoes and safety concerns, especially when I was alone with my kids in the entire resort.

The grounds are beautiful, with wonderful jungle gyms, a great restaurant, and incredibly friendly, lovely staff. The pool wasn’t kept very clean, the room had a damp issue—perhaps all of Roodeplaat suffers from that—and breakfast starts too late.
