“Extremely disappointing accommodation and management.”
My husband and I stayed for 6 nights during the Telluride Film Festival, and the location was the only good thing we could say. We paid about $660 US per night for a standard double room in this small, very tired‑looking ski lodge in Telluride. The hotel is reached by a footbridge over a river. There is no air conditioning and no elevator; the upstairs is accessed by a winding staircase. Our room was right next to the front door and a tiny reception cubicle, so we could hear everyone coming and going. Soundproofing between rooms was inadequate; we could hear the people in the room above us walking and showering at 6 am. One window in our room did not close properly and another was held together with duct tape. Peeling stucco was visible on the bathroom ceiling. The bathroom was tiny and the shower stall barely large enough for one person to turn around in. The room was advertised as having a patio, but it did not. The property description did not disclose that the hotel did not provide any housekeeping services, including fresh sheets and towels, during our 6‑night stay. The TV only offered streaming services on your own accounts. The room rate included breakfast, which was the worst breakfast we have ever had in over 45 years of worldwide travel. The lodge has an onsite manager who we could rarely find. On the third morning she failed to show up to prepare and serve breakfast for any of the hotel guests. With help from some locals we located the office of the property manager, Alpine Lodging Telluride. We reported our complaints and were told we would each receive a $50 refund (the same as a friend staying in another room). The management valued a missed breakfast at only $7.50 a day. They later provided clean towels daily and changed the sheets once. The management refused any further compensation.
