I found the old building charming, especially the restaurant that’s part of the hotel, and the staff were very friendly; the nights were quiet with no traffic noise at all. The only downside was that the hotel was hard to locate – neither Google Maps nor other GPS apps could guide us correctly. A helpful German tourist had been there before and pointed us in the right direction. If you’re in the same situation, keep an eye out for a green sign that says “hotel zum herrenhaus” and follow it.

The hotel’s location is great for hiking in the Hainich, the rooms are spacious, and breakfast is good; on nice days you can also eat in the beautiful beer garden under old trees.

A lovely, very quiet house with a spacious room, night-time silence even with the window open, good breakfast and dinner, and the staff were very hospitable.

The location near hiking trails is excellent, and the day starts with a very good breakfast featuring plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. The room 1 needs a renovation and a caring touch to make it cozy, and thinner beddings would be better in summer.
