“Thank Goodness the Manager was there to fix problems”
The hotel sits in the heart of Crystal City, close to the airport, metro, shopping, restaurants, and our main reason for staying there—the Birchmere Music Hall. We had a lovely view from our 12th‑floor room, seeing the Potomac River. The day manager, Ahmed, quickly fixed the issue with our original room and, learning we were celebrating our 40th anniversary, bought us a glass of champagne. He went out of his way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The bed was comfortable and we had a delicious, if expensive, breakfast. We were staying at the same time as a group of 40‑50 national guardsmen, so it was hard to sleep next to a room full of loud 18‑year‑olds; we had to crank our “noise machine” full blast to get any sleep. That’s not the hotel’s fault, but it wasn’t what we expected for a $335 a night room. Two of the three elevators were out of service, causing long waits. We specifically asked for a room with a view and received one facing a construction site, which the manager had to fix. The front desk staff seemed new and unfamiliar with the hotel.
