Staying in a 1515 chateau where Napoleon III once stayed, with villages nearby to visit Usson with its lava organs, Vernet with the Montfort chateau, and a very good village restaurant, Auberge de l'abbaye in Sauxillages, 6 km away. Reception by Phillips was impeccable, showing us every detail of the chateau. Nothing negative.

The castle was superb and well renovated. The accommodation was great for a stunning weekend. Everything was perfect.

The chateau was beautiful, with lovely villages in the area. The host and reception were very nice and genuinely sweet. They responded quickly to a request for a fan and served a good, cozy breakfast in the garden. The room’s décor was nicely matched. The room was very warm, the bed hard and narrow.

Some accommodations you already forget on the way home – this one stays in your mind. Absolute silence, only the stone owl and the forest owl alternate at night with their calls. The “bathroom with a view” lives up to its name. Philippe is exactly the host you want for a place like this: warm, unobtrusive and authentic. His mother’s homemade jams are a little work of art. And as a highlight I was still able to admire a Citroën Rosalie – as if time had simply stopped here. Only the castle spirit didn’t show up. Maybe he’ll bring it for our next visit.

The location was incredibly fun! The downside was that you couldn’t pick up drinks yourself; you had to rely on the manager.
