The hotel was closed when we arrived; all rooms had been booked by seasonal workers, so we had to change hotels and sleep elsewhere. We would have appreciated being informed of this by the booking site instead of arriving to a closed hotel.

The place itself is pretty nice and has a pool, so the facilities are decent and the vibe is pleasant. The big hiccup was that the hotel we booked was shut down and we were redirected to another spot about ten minutes by car from the town—nothing in the booking said that. We chose it for its central location but ended up on the outskirts where there’s nothing around. There’s no staff on site either; you have to sort everything yourself. It feels more like a workers’ area than a tourist spot.

Mission Beach Retreat was completely closed, but they managed to move me to Jackaroo Treehouse, which I’d highly recommend. The only downside is that Mission Beach never mentioned they were shut or that they’d rebook me elsewhere—Jackaroo told me straight up.

The lounge was comfy and the kitchen looked good, but the private room was a nightmare—really dirty, no sheets, and it was pricey for what you get. The staff member was also not friendly at all.

The spot is right on the beach and the kitchen is fully stocked, plus there are plugs by the bed, board games, a chill zone, and a book swap. The showers are hot and the bathrooms stay clean. On the flip side, the bed above had a broken slat, and the room was next to a smoking, singing outdoor area that kept going late. The kitchen got dirty by night’s end but was cleaned in the morning, and the shower only had a curtain. There aren’t many bathrooms, but we didn’t have to wait long.
