River Bend Farm

River Bend Farm sits in a gorgeous forest setting and the drive to the property is lovely. The accommodation is cozy, the view from the units is superb, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. However, when we returned from a trip we discovered the bed was not made, the rubbish bins were not emptied, and the wet towels had not been replaced. The staff told us the units are not serviced unless we pay extra, but there was no option to select this during booking, and the booking confirmation made no mention of it. The website only has a brief note near the bottom stating that daily housekeeping incurs an additional charge, with no way to opt in. This information was not provided at check‑in, which may have been an oversight. There is no mention of this under House Rules or in the fine print at the bottom of the site. The only other note they make is that they do not accommodate bachelor(ette) or similar parties. This should have been the place to mention that units are not serviced. Another problem was that the shower did not drain; water filled the shower floor within a minute and stayed there for several minutes. This was mentioned in a WhatsApp message to a staff member, but we never received any follow‑up. A little disappointment.

“Enjoyable trip”

The host was fantastic—they supplied a cot, a cot mattress, and linen for our baby. The place offers a stunning view, the shared spaces are clean and tidy, and I asked the cleaners to mop the veranda, which they did quickly because it gets dusty fast and my baby was crawling around. The road to the property is about 6 km of dirt, which would have been nice to know ahead of time depending on the vehicle you’re driving. We ran out of cold water on the second night because the gas ran out. I didn’t get a reply to my message because I sent it at 21:30 pm, which is understandable, but by the time we woke up the next morning it was hot. The bathroom shower took a long time to drain.

There was no breakfast provided, so we had to bring our own. Everything else was fine.

“Great service, safe, comfortable accommodation in a lovely quiet setting with excellent service from our host.”

Everything was nice except the location, which was a bit too far from the Hilton Arts Festival. The last 5 km of dirt road, especially at night, was a concern, but we’re glad it didn’t rain.

“It was a beautiful weekend and this unit suited our needs.”

The location was stunning, the unit was beautiful and had everything needed for a home‑away‑from‑home feel. A heater in the lounge or a fireplace would have been nice, but the electric blankets in the bedrooms were a welcome bonus.
